The Ventura Unified School District has a TWI (Two-Way Immersion) program that provides primary subject instruction in both Spanish and English starting in Kindergarten. VHS offers courses geared specifically to VUSD’s TWI students.

The VHS Bilingual Opportunities Pathways Program (BOPP)
•Created specifically with TWI students in mind
•Integrated classroom mixing upper level Spanish language learners and native Spanish speakers
•Two innovative, practical, career oriented classes
2 New Spanish Courses; Alternatives for TWI students
VHS as created and developed two new courses aimed at developing Spanish skills in seeking out, obtaining, and retaining employment
Spanish for Careers in the Community is being piloted this year and will be followed by Spanish for International Careers in fall of 2010.
TWI students can be tri-lingual or even quadri-lingual at VHS!
•VHS is the only high school in the district offering French and Italian.
•VHS has a German program that includes an annual German-American cultural and academic exchange.
Core Curriculum Classes in Spanish
•VHS is the only high school in the district currently offering Algebra in Spanish.
•In the works are other core curriculum classes to be offered in Spanish, including:
Algebra 2, Geometry, Chemistry, Geography.
Technology and Foreign Languages
•Thanks to BOPP grant monies, the VHS foreign language department has been able to purchase 40 laptop computers for student use.

•All VHS foreign language classrooms support wireless internet connections.
•All VHS foreign language classrooms are equipped with an LCD projector.
•The BOPP classroom is the one of two classrooms at VHS currently equipped with a SmartBoard.
The VHS Foreign Language faculty is experienced, dynamic and innovative!
•Our 9 language teachers have taught a combined total of 160 years!
•Our teachers are up-to-date and trained in modern, ground-breaking pedagogies, including TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling)
VHS Counselors are helpful and compassionate!
VHS is fortunate to have two Spanish speaking counselors who are also experienced former Spanish language instructors:
